Mixtter (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates a social networking service that lets you create a profile, publish posts, interact with other users, send direct messages, and receive notifications. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile

  • Username, display name, email address, and password (stored in hashed form).
  • Profile photo, banner image, bio, location, website, and date of birth (if you provide them).
  • Account settings such as language, theme, notification preferences, and privacy options.
  • Verification status if you apply for or receive a verified badge.

Content you create

  • Posts, replies, comments, reposts, quotes, likes, and saved/bookmarked posts.
  • Direct messages and conversation metadata (participants, timestamps).
  • Media you upload (images and other files attached to posts or messages).
  • Reports you submit about other users or content.

Social graph and activity

  • Users you follow, users who follow you, and users you block.
  • Notifications generated by your activity and interactions with others.
  • Search queries and explore interactions within the app.

Device, session, and technical data

  • Authentication tokens and active session records (device label, IP address, user agent, login time).
  • Login history including approximate location derived from IP address.
  • Push notification tokens (Expo) and your notification preferences.
  • Server logs, error reports, and security-related events.

2. How we use your information

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Mixtter service.
  • Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • Display your profile and content to other users according to your settings.
  • Deliver direct messages in real time and send push/email notifications you enable.
  • Process verification requests, content reports, and moderation actions.
  • Enforce our rules, prevent abuse, and protect users and the platform.
  • Improve performance, fix bugs, and develop new features.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

3. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where applicable, we rely on:

  • Contract: to provide the service you sign up for.
  • Legitimate interests: security, fraud prevention, moderation, and service improvement.
  • Consent: optional notifications and certain preferences you can change in settings.
  • Legal obligation: when required by law.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We may share information in these cases:

  • Other users: content and profile fields you make public or visible to followers.
  • Service providers: hosting and file storage (AWS S3), email delivery (SMTP), push notifications (Expo), and infrastructure needed to run the app.
  • Moderation: Mixtter administrators may access reports, account data, and content to enforce policies and handle appeals.
  • Legal: when required by law, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this policy.

5. Third-party services

Mixtter uses third-party services that may process data on our behalf, including:

  • Amazon Web Services (S3) for media storage.
  • Expo Push Notification Service for mobile alerts.
  • Email providers for account recovery and transactional messages.
  • IP geolocation services to show approximate login location.
  • Firebase/Google services on Android for app distribution and related platform features.

These providers are bound by their own privacy policies and our data processing agreements where applicable.

6. Data retention

  • We keep your account data while your account is active.
  • If you deactivate your account, we may retain limited data until you delete it or until retention is no longer needed.
  • When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, or backup purposes.
  • Server logs and security records may be kept for a limited time.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access and download a copy of your data (available in Settings → Privacy → Download your data).
  • Correct inaccurate profile information in the app.
  • Deactivate or permanently delete your account in Settings → Account.
  • Block other users and control who can interact with you.
  • Manage push and email notification preferences.
  • Review active sessions and sign out remotely.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where applicable.

8. Children

Mixtter is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including where our servers or service providers operate. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards when data is transferred internationally.

10. Security

We use technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, and session management. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please use a strong, unique password and keep your device secure.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
